Creepy & Creative Halloween Food Ideas to Try in Your Cabin

The spooky season is here and marks the beginning of the hosting seasons, where we gather with loved ones and enjoy festive feasts.

If you’re looking for something new to try this October, we’ve gathered a few of our favourite fang-tastic Halloween party foods that can be made in your BBQ cabin to impress your family and friends!

Stuffed Pepper Jack-o’-Lanterns

A simple savoury favourite that can also help spice up October meals and make veggies fun for kids.

Start by creating a flavourful rice mixture with onions, garlic, herbs and spices, then add any extra flavours or additional fillings - this will be your pepper pumpkin stuffing. Alternatively, you could use cous cous, buckwheat or any grain of your choosing.

To make the pepper pumpkins, we recommend using an orange pepper as this works best for achieving the classic pumpkin look and has a slightly sweet flavour.

Cut the top off the pepper and take out the seeds, discarding the seeds, but keeping the pepper top. This is when you can cut a traditional pumpkin face into the side of the pepper for some extra seasonal fun! Then fill your pepper with your cooked rice/grain mixture, pop the pepper top back on and gently grill on the BBQ for a few minutes until cooked.

Boo-schetta

A super easy way to spook up your starters!

The classic bruschetta starts with a base of grilled bread (crusty bread like ciabatta works the best), which can be toasted over your BBQ grill. Create a mixture of chopped tomatoes, garlic, olive oil, salt & pepper to your taste, then evenly distribute this across your grilled bread.

Now it’s time to get spoooooky!

At this time of year, shops will be filled with Halloween-themed cookie cutters, so it will be easy to find a ghost-shaped cookie cutter, which can be used to cut out a ghost shape from cheese and placed on top of your bruschetta- I mean, Boo-schetta!

Witches Fingers

A Halloween twist on a barbecue classic.

When making hot dogs in your BBQ cabin this October, you can easily add a bit of Halloween theatre to your sausages by carving the shape of nails and knuckles into your hot dog sausages. Then simply cook and serve as usual in a hot dog bun with sauces, onions, cheese, gherkins- anything your visiting goblins and ghouls fancy using to customise their witch finger hot dogs.

Pumpkin Spice Latte Cauldron

It’s not autumn without a PSL! If you’re hosting a large group, it’s a great opportunity to pop on your witch or wizard hat and brew up a cauldron of pumpkin spice!

With the rise in popularity of the pumpkin spice latte, supermarkets now sell ready-made mixtures that can be served chilled or warm, so if you’re short on time, those are a great option.

However, if you want to impress and go all out, you can create your own spice blend of cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and ginger, gently simmering that with some pumpkin puree and a milk of your preference, whether that be dairy milk, soya, oat milk, hazelnut or pea milk (yes- that exists!).

Is a pumpkin spiced drink better as a coffee, tea or hot chocolate? That’s for you to decide! Thankfully, with plenty of space on your central BBQ grill, you can keep multiple types of spiced pumpkin beverages warm for your guests. You could even create a “pimp your PSL” station with toppings like cream, cinnamon powder, sprinkles, cocoa powder, syrup- the list goes on!

Spooky Sangria

Makes 1 jug

  • 1 bottle of red wine
  • 125ml orange juice
  • 125ml brandy
  • 1 tbsp sugar or grenadine (if you like a sweeter drink)
  • 1 lemon, cut into wedges
  • 1 blood orange cut into wedges
  • 1 apple, cut into slices then into ghost shapes (another great use for the cookie cutter from the Boo-schette recipe!)

Add the orange, lemon and sugar or grenadine (if using) into a large jug and mix together. Add the brandy and orange juice, and give it another mix before adding the red wine. Cut your apple slices into ghost shapes and add them into the jug- we recommend adding these later as we don’t want to muddle our ghosts!

Let your sangria mixture rest for at least two hours so all the flavours can properly mix together before serving.

We hope these have inspired you for the coming month of October, or if you just want to celebrate the spooky things all year round!
