If you’re watching season 3 of Vinnie Jones in the Country, you might see the familiar sight of an Arctic Cabin!

Last year our team was invited to the West Sussex countryside to install one of our solar dome cabins beside Vinnie’s stunning lake.

The History Behind Arctic Cabins

If you’ve never seen or heard of an Arctic Cabin before, our log cabins are inspired by traditional grillkota (roughly translated as “grill house”) that can be found across the Scandinavian landscapes. In fact, it was when our founder Gareth went to visit his wife Virpi’s hometown in Finland, that the idea was sparked to bring BBQ cabins to the UK.

Tracing their history back to Sámi reindeer herders, grillkota can be found scattered around local communities and in forests. They were used (and still are!) as places for socialising,  communal cooking and sheltering from the harsh winter weather outside.

As a nation, we love cracking the BBQ out whenever we get a hint of sunshine at the weekend, but a BBQ hut allows for barbequing all year round in a sheltered space! If grillkota can stand for centuries in Scandinavian weather, our modern BBQ huts can survive whatever the British weather tries to throw at it!

Vinnie Jones' Log Cabin

While we are known for our bestselling grill shacks and garden pub style cabins, we can create cabins without the central barbecue unit for a unique take on a summerhouse- or in Vinnie’s case, a lakeside retreat!

When the enquiry came through, we were super excited about having the opportunity of working with Vinnie Jones to create the perfect log cabin for his needs.

You might be familiar with our sister company Cabin Master, who create bespoke garden rooms that are designed around you and your requirements, and when looking at an Arctic Cabin, you might not think there is much room for customisation- but that’s where you're wrong! We can alter elements of our cabins (and even connect multiple cabins) to create your perfect space to suit how you will use it. 

What Vinnie needed was a cabin that blended into the surrounding natural environment and allowed for beautiful views from inside the cabin. By choosing a solar dome cabin with an extension, it maximises the internal space of the cabin for a variety of uses, like how our other sister companies Cabins for Schools and Camping Cabins use solar cabins as outdoor classrooms and glamping cabins, respectively.

Additionally, to make the most of the beautiful views around the lake and maximise natural light, Vinnie chose to have larger windows looking out on the surrounding countryside. An excellent choice!
